Roger and Sharon Portrait Painting Completed

by Anthony Weaver (aka ~ANT)

Near the end of October 2010, Big Jon Schindler inquired about commissioning a painting of his Dad, Roger and his wife, Sharon. They were married on July 4, 2009 and Jon had a great wedding photo to work from. Jon wanted the painting done by Christmas 2010 and even though I was a bit tardy in my start, Roger and Sharon was completed in time and was opened on Christmas day.

As usual I requested the original photo, however, the only photos that were available had been posted on Facebook.  As everyone knows with Facebook you can download photos of just about any size, yet Facebook compresses the images so if you download the photos they aren't like the originals. Dealing with photos that aren't at their best is something I've done a lot from TK-4-REAL produced from a first generation cell phone photo to Austen Portrait painted from a blurry photo from the early 1990's.

During the painting of Roger and Sharon I shot a video showing how I painted this portrait. I expect to release the video in March 2011.

The Roger and Sharon photo used (below) was cropped from the original.

The picture has been traced to the canvas.

Background and clothes are almost 75% done. Soon I start painting the faces.

I'm done pushing brown and blue. Next is a layer of peach for skin tone and then its time for the "sunburn" phase.

The "sunburn" phase is now done. Now I finalize the face colors, paint the eyes, lips, etc.

At this point it's time to work on the eye's and get the color of Sharon's hair looking better
